Physical Success

Physical Success is achieved not by big plans and complicated goals but by simple common sense actions in what you eat and how you move. It’s as common sense as that. What you Eat and how you Exercise help give you the quality of life you will Enjoy. Everything on top of this is a bonus. This is why we say Physical Success is built on nothing more and nothing less than Three E’s: Eating, Exercise and Enjoyment. Eat with common sense. Exercise with common sense. And common sense says you will enjoy a much more successful physical life. Where most people go wrong is not in choosing the wrong program or diet but in how they go about setting their goals for Physical Success in the first place. Your Physical Success begins not with the right regimen but with the right kind of goals. If you are going to learn how best to Eat, Exercise and Enjoy then you will have to learn to set SMART goals (Pg. 47 of The Five Fundamentals of Common Sense Success). These are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound. Look at these examples: Get the picture? While the goal of a 43-year-old man and 23-year-old woman desiring to become a Navy SEAL is Specific, Measurable and Time-bound it is not Attainable and therefore not Relevant. You cannot join active U.S. military past the age of 42 and women are not permitted in the SEALs. For a 23-year-old man it is a different story. And what about the last goal? To be happy. Surely it is Attainable and Relevant. But the goal is too broad. It is not Specific or Measurable. The SMART tool is not a science. Just because a 23-year-old man desires to join the Navy and become a SEAL and it meets the basic SMART requirements does not mean it is a good goal or the right goal. The SMART tool must be used with common sense and wisdom. The tool works as a framework. Are your goals for Physical Success SMART? Only you can decide. And the first step in deciding is to take a look at what are your goals. Are your goals based on improving your appearance, your stamina, or for protecting yourself against bad health? Maybe you have a goal to lose weight or run a marathon. Maybe your goal is to reduce your stress from life and work. The list of goals people have for Physical Success are as varied as the people reading this page. What all Physical Success goals have in common however is the fact that your goals can easily be charted with the SMART tool. Common sense on setting SMART goals for Eating success →
